How Your Home Solar System Works
Solar PV (Photovoltaic) is a system that allows you to convert sunlight (photo) into electrical energy (voltaic). The Process happens in 4 simple steps:
Step 1. A set of Solar Panels are mounted firmly on top of your house facing the direction of the sun. Photos, which are units of sunlight energy, hit the solar panels and are turned into an direct electric current (DC).
Step 2. The direct electric current goes through your monitored solar meter which let’s you know how much energy your panels are producing every minute of the day.
Step 3. The DC is sent to an inverter which turns it into alternating current (AC) which is the type of electricity used by your home appliances and outlets.
Step 4. Any left over Solar Power that you generate is sent back through the net meter of your house and into the electrical grid. Remember the utility company has to measure this number and pay you for every watt you produce. Sweeet deal!
